Take your love of Lego to the next level with a whole week of Lego maker projects. Join the many artists around the world have used Lego for its wide range of creative possibilities. SUPERHERO ART WEEK
JULY 11-15

Using clay, paint and mixed media, participants can re-create their own superheroes or create their OWN.  This fun week will focus on our favourite caped beings while introducing fun art techniques and applications.

Students will be working with Clay, found objects and more to learn the fundamentals of sculpture.  While creativity will be encouraged, participants will learn the traditions of three dimensional art and new ways to approach it.


DRAWING & CARTOONING
JULY 18-22 

Participants will be guided through the exciting world of anime through drawing and painting exercises, drawing techniques and history.


PAINTING WEEK
AUGUST 22-26 

Using Acrylic, tempera, watercolour and mixed media, students will embark on the elements of painting, and the elements of art.  New and traditional techniques will be introduced throughout the duration of the week to create exciting projects.

Xtracurricular is an annual exhibition that features artwork by local high school students and their teachers. This is our chance to showcase the work of the talented individuals who will be our next generation of regional artists.





The exhibition will include a wide range of artworks in a variety of media ranging from drawing and painting to printmaking, sculpture and photography. 

Xtracurricular represents a year’s worth of learning. These students have explored their surroundings and manipulated their materials in order to transform a given project or set of guidelines into unique and meaningful works of art. Please join us to congratulate these talented youths!

This auction will close at 4 p.m., Sunday, June 26th.  The high bidder for each item will be notified shortly thereafter. 

Art Bytes is a new project of the Volunteer Committee of the Grimsby Public Art Gallery.

CALL FOR ARTISTS! 2016 Bi-Annual Juried Exhibition

Every two years the GPAG hosts a juried exhibition to showcase new and exciting works byartists from across Ontario. This competition often attracts up to 200 entries; from these the three jurors select about 30 pieces to be in the show. The juried process is always an exciting one – for the artists; for the jurors; for the gallery; and for the viewers – and a process in which we all manage to experience something new. This is our fun alternative to the other ‘paint nights’ out there- in a relaxed and entertaining environment.

‘Drinks with Van Gogh’ stands out as you will learn by painting from the master himself while enjoying drinks in a pub. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED. Van Gogh has already done the work–we will just follow his style, and in the process learn about his inspiration.

Call for Contract Instructors!

Our need for instructors is immediate, so applications will be considered as they arrive. 
Applications will continue to be accepted and considered for future opportunities 

Start Date: May 27, 2016 (and ongoing)

Wage: $25/hr 

The Grimsby Public Art Gallery has an immediate and ongoing need for occasional contract art instructors to teach in-school and in-gallery children’s art classes on an ‘as needed ‘basis. This is an excellent opportunity for artists and educators experienced in teaching visual art concepts and techniques to children. A flexible schedule during school hours and access to transportation is beneficial. 

MAJOR DUTIES: 

-Delivers / teaches workshops to students of various ages both in school and in gallery. Responsible for preparation, set up and clean up before and after programmes 
-Prepares workshops and lesson plans for basic programmes and specialized workshops as requested, including developing workshop material resources (such as examples, worksheets, digital presentations) and preparing activities. 
-Organizes structure of workshops, including material to be provided in order to present the lesson 
-Monitors progress of students, provides assistance and encouragement, and paces workshop to meet students’ needs. 
-Collaborate on developing possible themes and art-making activities 
-Maintain inventory for art-making supplies. 
-Maintain clear communication with internal staff. 


QUALIFICATIONS: 

The ideal candidate will be a post-secondary graduate in Fine Arts, Art History, Art Education, Education or a related discipline with a good understanding of contemporary visual arts. A minimum of 1 year teaching experience, preferably in a not-for-profit arts organization is expected. This experience will consist primarily of delivering hands-on art activities for children and adults. He/she will possess effective written communication skills and the ability to maintain confidential information. He/she must be computer literate, highly motivated, able to work with minimal supervision, and able to organize and plan for current and future programs simultaneously. This position will require travel to off-site locations. 
A Vulnerable Sector Screening will be required prior to any in-class sessions being delivered
